The prodigal blogger

Well things are slowing down a little with tree work as the weather turns to a wintery mix around here, so I plan on spending a little more time keeping you all updated on a more regular basis.

This year has been one of transistion for us ministry-wise. In January we decided that we could no longer work full-time for Climbing for Christ. There were many factors involved in that desicion the greatest being finances. We slowly began rebuilding Todd's Tree Service and digging our way out of the financial pit that we found ourselves in from the year before. We also began praying and seeking Gods will for us for ministry. I was very hesitant to commit to anything because it seemed like my previous ministry attempts haven't worked out.

Option #1: I considered being a businessman and having that be my ministry. I would serve by giving of my finances (I know firsthand how difficult it is to raise support), through contacts in the community, and serving in my local church.
Option #2: I started researching the possibility of starting my own non-profit ministry. This would be expensive to start and maintain and would require administrative skills that I am continuing to develop.
Option #3: I could become a "tentmaking" missionary with another Christian climbing organization.
By a miracle from God I was able to attend the national conference of Solid Rock Climbers for Christ (SRCFC) out in Colorado. I was very impressed by what I saw and the members and staff that I met. Still hesitant to be too quick to jump in I came home and continued praying. In November I decided to go ahead and apply to be the Area Contact for North East fo SRCFC. Yesterday I was accepted to fill that position.
What that means is that I will coordinate events and outreach ministries for the North East. It also allows me to do short-term missions trips as an "On The Road Missionary" for SRCFC.
The mission of SRCFC is to: Evangelize, Equip and Ecourage- evangelize lost climbers, equip christian climbers to reach others, and the encourage Christian climbers in their walk of faith.

So now I will no longer need to correct everyone when they say that I work for "Climbers for Christ" because now it is true.
