Jehova on lead

The hardest part of a climb is usually leading. The lead climber is the one heading out into unknown territory and placing protection for safety. We sang a song in church tonight that reminded me that Christ is available to lead every pitch in the climb of my life if I am willing to tie in with Him.

Lead On, O King Eternal

Lead on, O King eternal, The day of march has come; henceforth in fields of conquest Thy tents shall be our home. Thro' days of preparation Thy grace has made us strong; And now, O King Eternal, We lift our battle song.

Lead on, O King Eternal, till sin's fierce war shall cease, And holiness shall whisper The sweet amen of peace; For not with swords' loud clashing, Nor roll of stirring drums, With deeds of love and mercy The heavenly kingdom comes.

Lead on, O King Eternal, We follow, not with fears; for gladness breaks like morning where-e'er thy face appears. Thy cross is lifted o'er us; We journey in its light. The crown awaits the conquest; Lead on, O God of might.

Belay on! Climb when ready!

I really miss singing hymns. Well, I don't really miss SINGING them but I miss reading the lyrics while others sing them!

We've been doing something cool lately. Isaac Watts wrote lyrics to over 700 hymns including most of the psalms. They are all written in metered verse so they can be sung to any tune that has the same meter. We have been singing some of his awesome words to familiar tunes like Twila Paris and Keith Green. good stuff.

You guys are all asking -- no begging! -- for a return to orthodoxy. The emergent church movement is looking for worship significance from the old hymnody! Why? B/c the lyrics are well thought out and singable!
Keep pressing for relevance! This is the reason why we use a blended style at Wyoming Baptist (not hip-hop as some may have guessed from posts at Windshield Musings blogsite). We are seeking to incorporate the best of both worlds into our format.

Todd I would be interested in any of those really unique combinations of Wattsian lyrics and contemporary tunes.
